What to do what to do with all of these recipes………

This is an update to this past post: Since the time of this writing I have found a couple of new and better ideas . First since I did pare down the number of cookbooks I own, I do a right to left use of my books. I use the cookbook on the right of the shelf and look for a new or old favorite menu in that book for this weeks menu, maybe even two . Then I return the book to the left of the shelf. Each time using the book that is on the right so all the books are getting used. If any of them don’t thrill me anymore they are removed to another book shelf for 6 months to see if I decide indeed I want the book or it has to go. If in the end years later I want the book again I am pretty sure our local library has it. Library you say ? oh yes they have all the latest and greatest books there and if not our great library is willing to order or get what I need through our interlibrary loan system. I delight in the books I get, usually can renew them and eventually go back to get them again if I so choose. It’s like having my own cookbook selection but down the street. I don’t have to dust them or store them either. With recipes, lots of times things are quite similar and I have taken to writing the new improved version I call it in the cookbook I already own with the similar recipe in it. What do you think? who am I to talk about clutter

The one thing I have  that I cannot seem to part with are all of my little and big scraps of paper with  recipes on it. I have piles and piles of these. I get them from newspapers , magazines, cookbooks that I rent from the library and secondhand book stores. I always with the utmost integrity plan to use the recipe soon, but it slips from my fingers to an ever growing pile from which it will never be found again.  Why is  it then that  I keep  renting more  cookbooks from the library,or get an idea from a book store or magazine, when is enough enough? If I actually  decided to make one recipe per day from all these piles, It would take me the rest of my life and then some, possibly the rest of your life to be able to use all of them! So I have to figure  this out. Do I really need these recipes? Will I actually make them?  Is this really how I want to spend my time? Would I be better suited to writing letters to our leaders about climate change ? I am on one and was on two different sites that gave you menus and recipes which of course I love, (more recipes more better)  one site, I never made a thing off although I did spend time certainly perusing the site and bothering my honey with questions too early in the morning  like this  “This is a recipe for xyz do you think I should make it? ” and of course my honey half awake responds”honey I haven’t even had a cup of coffee yet or breakfast…” but but but …  The truth is these little and big notebooks, scraps, and envelopes filled with sometimes even untitled recipes are just irritating me. It creates the very clutter in my life that I am saying I want to get rid of. Huh! Well I’ve got work to do after I just said that to you here . I will post the keepers that I do make ,and just for today I will do without the rest. I am sure tomorrow being another day I have some time to think about this revelation and if I am lucky a few of these recipes will become trash. At least I can hope….PS. since this post I have gone through my book collection like a warrior. I’ve pared downhttp://www.carensnotebook.com/?p=2285 enough to get a wow from my kids , and that really means something. I also have gone back to the cookbooks I already own to look if a recipe I would like to try is already in one of my own cook books. Also if there is a recipe addition to an old favorite of mine, I just add the idea for the new ingredient to the current page of the old recipe. After all these are my very own cookbooks, that I do love and cherish. I am smiling.
