The strawberries are coming and they are really looking nice.
It it strawberry season here in Wisconsin. Yeah! The first of them brought to me today by my lovely farmer. Sweet juicy and delicious you just would like to eat all of them right from the box, which of course I did . Now is the time to be conscious of the seasons, get what is grown here and is ripe right now. Eat your fill and save some more in canning jars or your freezer for the winter. The price is the best as is the quality and you will be helping out your local farm families who work very hard to grow food for us right in our community. Take time to notice what is growing here and when it ripens. Get to know your farmers and support them with you buying dollars . Our food systems depends on it. So much fossil fuel can be saved by eating what is grown here instead of shipping berries here from California or further, and they taste so much better. Even better take out some of your lawn and grow your own patch of berries. You will be surprised how easy it will be. I know because I grow strawberries right now in my front yard where there used to be nothing but lawn. They taste mighty good and no chemicals What is not to like .. Try it for your self , the flavor will knock your socks off. So bye for now, I’m going into the kitchen to try my hand at strawberry shortcakes, gluten free of course.
Note to self: so okay time in the kitchen tonight was not a priority, so the shortcakes will have to wait for yet another day. But, we do have a non-dairy ice cream that paired incredibly well with our hand picked strawberries, and yes life is good especially when you know the farmers where you live. You support them by buying what they grow and in turn you get to eat the most healthy food on the planet and freshest too
